Cancer can cause physical and emotional strain. Eating well, exercising and relaxing may help reduce stress and anxiety, and improve your well-being. Dealing with changes in your emotions and relationships early on is also very important.
Eating nutritious food will help you to keep as well as possible and cope with your cancer and treatment side effects. Depending on your treatment, you may have special dietary needs. A dietician can help you to plan the best foods for your situation.
I cannot comment on the effects of Chemotherapy as I only had Radiation treatment. Radiation and Chemotherapy affect your diet, taste buds, energy levels and you will most likely lose weight. Most people regain their taste buds and appetite months after treatment and return to their previous eating habits and regain their lost weight. During my six weeks of daily radiation treatment, I would have a weekly visit with the hospital dietician who helped me with advice on different foods to eat and energy supplements.
