Care for the Carer

Many days, I felt the worst part of what I was going through was watching Steve, my ever amazing, wonderful and supportive husband suffer and worry.
All the attention goes to the patient.  Everyone is concerned about how they are coping with what they are going through.  But the carer and other family members also go through their own journey of stress and worry for their loved one.  I promised myself I would make this up to him one day – and I will.
Every day he became more and more concerned about my health and was also worried about the unknowingness of what was ahead!
He became my chauffeur, my counsellor, my dietician, my after hours nurse and physiotherapist, my rock!
I know I would have survived my operation and radiation treatment – I would have gone through it because I had to but there is no way I would have been able to go through it day after day after day, and come out how I did, without his unconditional love and support.
There are no words to describe what I owe him and how amazing he is!

So don’t forget your carer, or family members – whoever is around supporting you also needs your support.
